SUMMARY
1957-1961
- While in the US Air Force, Dr. Howard graduated from
the Pleasant Hills School of Cartooning.
He served in the Crash Rescue and Fire Department, and
also designed Fire Prevention Posters, and did illustrative art
work for some of the training classes.
1961
- Upon
receiving his Honorable Discharge from the service,
Dr. Howard while working as a telephone lineman attended night
school at The Texas Academy of Art in Houston Texas.
1965
- Dr. Howard became a
commercial artist at the NASA
Manned Space Craft Center
in Houston Texas. Later
he worked in advertising
art, and then became a free lance artist.
1974
- With 4 years of Life Insurance Sales, and public
speaking
added to his experience, Dr.
Howard enrolled in Baptist Bible College in Springfield
Missouri. While
attending the College, he revised and taught
the Chalk Talk class, and instituted the Audio Visual class at
the school. On weekends Dr. Howard became involved with training
the workers in the local Baptist Churches in the area, and the
surrounding states. It was during this time that the ground work
was being laid for Dr.
Gene Howard’s Teaching Doodles ministry.
1977
- Dr.
Howard graduated from Baptist Bible College, and for the past 20
years has been in the ministry full time, training the local
church workers, and potential workers in the use of visuals.
Thousands of Pastors Sunday School Teachers, Jr. Church
Workers, and Christian
School Teachers have been affected by this ministry.
Dr. Howard and his
wife Norma have been financially living by faith on love
offerings for the last 23 years with the exception of 5 years
that was spent as Educational Director for two Bible Baptist
Churches.
As a result of
God’s blessings and their faithfulness, Dr. Howard’s visual
teaching techniques and inventions are now being used by
Missionaries in every continent of the world.
|
1991
- After being told by people for several years
that he looked like and sounded like John Wayne, he
launched into
an additional evangelistic ministry to reach patriotic
Americans. God
gave him a message entitled “Freedom
and Sacrifice” and delivers it in such
settings as Baptist Churches, Veteran Hospitals,
Military Bases, and
even Festivals. |

|
The message uplifts
our Veterans and talks about the physical sacrifice that they
made, and then it
switches over and talks about the Spiritual Sacrifice that only
Christ could make for us.
He has appeared at
such functions as:
The John Wayne
Convention in Akron Ohio with
Pillar, John Wayne’s
widow, and Harry Carry Jr. That played
with John in 11 of his movies.
|
National Rifle
Association national board of directors meeting in
Nashville, Tennessee.
|
| Veterans of
Foreign Wars National Commanders Homecoming.
|
ESPN television,
Texas Country Reporter and countless other
TV and radio interviews. |
As an offspring of this
ministry Dr. Howard started writing poems and recorded an album
entitled "WHAT MADE
AMERICA GREAT" and a poem book entitled
"A COLLECTION OF POEMS".
Dr. Howard recites some of this poetry during his
performances. |
